I offer individual sessions at different venues in Cambridge and London. Some session in London can be booked in a Pilates studio where we work on Pilates equipment. Please have a look at my timetable for details.
If necessary I can arrange individual sessions in the comfort of your own home. Please contact me to discuss.
Each individual session lasts one hour, however, you can book double session if you want.

Why have an individual session?
There are a number of reasons why you might want to chooses an individual session instead of joining a class:
- to receive direct support and guidance through touch;
- to improve your performance in sports, dance or daily activities;
- to complement treatment you are receiving from your specialist practitioner (I work closely with a number of health practitioners);
- to support the rehabilitation process after an injury;
- to prepare you for joining a class;
- to supplement a regular class you are already attending;
- to work at your own pace;
- to work on your personal programme;
- simply because you prefer an individual session to a class.
There are occasions where I need you to have an individual session instead of or before joining a class:
- If you are pregnant between weeks 8 and 14 and have not done Pilates before. It will be at my discretion to let you can join a class after week 16 or if you have done Pilates before.
- If you cannot lie down on a mat on the floor.
- If you suffer from a condition that will not allow you to join a class. Often people can join a class after just one or two 1-to-1 sessions. It is a decision we will make together.
- If you are unsure please contact me to discuss.
What happens in a session?
An individual session begins with an initial consultation to discuss your personal needs and goals and a brief assessment of your posture and some basic movements.
We will explore the ways in which you can already move easily using some Pilates exercises or simply checking some movements in areas that you want to work on. We will be looking at: what are your movement habits? Is there any pain or discomfort? Are there any issues, for example previous injuries? How can we challenge you?
A special part of a 1-to-1 session can be the work with touch. Touch is a direct way of communicating with your body. I 'listen' to your body, feel how it moves – with ease or with strain; sense for bones, muscles and even organs and other body systems in their interplay in movement or in stillness. I 'talk' to your body, guiding it to find balance and ease of movement. Often you will experience the touch as relaxing and supportive. Occasionally, I use touch to give you a resistance to work against in order for you to become aware of certain muscle groups or simply to notice a difference. It is through the differences that our bodies learn about change, realise improved movement patterns and find the balance between strength and flexibility.
At the end of the session most people feel a change, some small, some big. Most people report feeling freer, more flexible, they have a sense of an improved posture, their breathing is more relaxed, and they feel a general sense of well-being. We will revisit the requests you made at the beginning, and how that has been attended to. I might suggest some ways how you can make the changes more permanent features of your life, including exercises and things to be aware of.
Together we will discuss and decide on a way forward that may include working with Pilates and/or the Franklin Method depending on what you would like to achieve. A recent shoulder discomfort may go away after a few sessions while a long standing issue may require a number of sessions. We will also decide together if you should continue with individual sessions or join a class, if that is one of your goals.
But certainly after one session, you will have some idea of what I can offer you. Sessions that are part of a series are usually about a week apart and we will review your progress and your goals on a continuous basis.
