Classes

I want you to learn but not to be taught.

I teach regular matwork classes in Cambridge and London combining Pilates and the Franklin Method . I often use small props like bands and balls to add challenge and variety.

I offer different levels of classes and always advise clients who are new to Pilates to start at the beginner level.

I also offer specific classes for women only – see the timetable for details.

Classes run as courses (blocks of 6 to 8 weekly sessions). Each class lasts 60 minutes and will progressively advance with the course.

A place on a course should be booked in advance and payment for the course is on the first session at the latest. Unfortunately, there can be no refunds for missed classes but I do offer catch-up classes wherever possible.

If you cannot see a suitable class on the timetable do contact me as I might be in the process of arranging a new class. Also, if you have friends or colleagues who are interested in joining a class why not start your own group? I would be happy to accommodate a new group depending on availability in my timetable.

My approach

In my classes I offer a mix of exercises:- for strength, for flexibility, for awareness.

I incorporate the Franklin Method working with imagery and touch. I sometimes have a theme to a class where we use experiential anatomy:- experiencing and experimenting with our anatomy in order to understand HOW and WHY some part of the body moves in a certain way and WHAT happens IF we move differently. The idea being that when we understand the design of the body we understand and ultimately improve the function for example the range of movement or the feeling of the movement.

Classes_1.jpgI often encourage people to feel differences and whenever we do something new I take time for people to discover the new exercises for themselves. I also re-visit exercises and put a different emphasis on them, again encouraging to feel differences. It's through feeling the differences that the body learns.

My aim is that people discover their bodies for themselves in order to increase their body awareness.

That approach requires that we constantly inquire and discover and for that we need to take time. There are also times in class where we just move fluidly from exercise to exercise applying what we have learned and enjoying the fluidity of the movements, the feeling we get from that.

Come along and try it out!
